Getting started...

Sound driver setup

Choose in the menu View | O - Output scheme. If component absent, press the right mouse button on the scheme and choose: Add component > OutGenDriver and connect an output p1 to an input of a component as shown:

To an output p1 will be transfered the total sound from schemes of different compositions. Select type of wave driver output from list.

Load one of demonstration songs and press play button.

Check up connection of cables on the output scheme (main menu View | O ) , sound volume in the windows system, on a cable bringing a sound to the driver.

Select appropriate sound card driver at OutGenDriver component.

Create a new song

File | New song

Choose in the menu scheme A (View | A)

Press the right mouse button on the scheme and choose

In the tracklinker choose connection with 1-st track (for example):

Next Add component > Adaptor

In the component daptor1 - open VST, browse for external VSTi component (for example for Synth1 VST.dll - very popular freeware synth ):

Connect an output tracklinker to an input adaptor1:

Hold down Ctrl key then click Left Mouse Button on the output pin of tracklinker (do not release) then move mouse to the input pin of the adaptor1, then release.

Connect an output adaptor1 with ow1:

The pin ow1 collects all final sound of a song and directs to the output scheme.
The pin o1 collects all final control signal (MIDI sending) of a song and directs to the output scheme.

Go to 1-st track of the pattern editor and start to enter notes (from the computer keyboard).

Press F6 for playing an edited pattern.

 

The general concepts. 

Each song consist of vertical tracks. Each track consist of rows set on which notes sequences and other control commands are written. Pattern editor allows editing a small part of one or several tracks. This part can be named a pattern.

Created patterns are necessary for placing in the useful order. This can be done in the Arranger :

With help of the component connection scheme you can visually direct a sound wave through components synthesizing or modifying a sound and get practically any sounding.

This component scheme will be saved to the song file.

In a window of flows it is possible to create static control curves for automate component parameters. These curves are adhered to the time scale.

With help of effect processor it is possible to create dynamic curves for automate component parameters. Such curves are placed on a palette of tasks and can be called from an effect field of a pattern. The task can consist of several curves or from MIDI sending.

In the function variator window it is possible to redefine hot keys on the various functions. To edit preset click on the 'Allow Edit' button

How to input musical notes

Each track consist of the blocks like this: .
Each block describes note to play (or a several notes) octave, instrument, volume and effect.

For example:
note C, 4-th octave, 1-st instrument, volume 90 (available volumes: 000-127) with effect a00.
The instrument field contains number of instrument from 000 up to 127 or subbank and the number in it.
- b subbank and 01 number.

This technique allows you to access to 28*64=1792 instruments(presets) without additional browsing the plugins

For example: a25 - bank N 0 instrument N 25
b25 - bank N 0 instrument N 64+25=89
c01 - bank N 1 instrument N 1
d02 - bank N 1 instrument N 64+2=66

At the effect field type in name of task to run (a00 for example). You can stop task at any moment by such rule as in the notes, just place these symbols at the effect column: ..= , =.. or .=..

The effect command aof stops the all effect-tasks. The effect task will stop itself if new task begins at the same column.

You can change song speed with next predefined commands:

$01,$02...$FF - tracker speed; t00, t01... t99 fast rate; T00, T01... T99 slow rate

All other tasks are created in the Effect processor.

To record Note Stop press ' ` ' or ' ~ ' (near 1 key ) key in case what cursor located at the note field.

To delete note press: '.' (dot) key. To delete field press backspace(<-) key.


Working with Effect processor.

At the left part of window placed a palette of tasks. The palette is divided into groups which have the name consisting of one symbol. In each group can be placed up to 256 tasks. Each task has the address in group by a principle of 'sea fight':

Palette of effects

To call a task it is necessary to know group and coordinates. To run task - input its name at effect column of pattern editor.

For example: in parallel with the note the task s00 will be run. It is recommended to unite tasks in groups on sense of action.

Example: Group s - a stereo arrangement. Group d - volume slice Down.

It is not required to remember the arrangement of each task, it is better to select sounding by iterating coordinates.

Create a task with the help of the popup menu.

Each task will consist of a set of curves. Each curve represents change in a time of the certain parameter of a component. Sounding of a component will change according to these curves (after the task will start). For assignment to a parameter curve , click to a component on the scheme; drag parameter by mouse from the tree of parameters to a curve.

Ctrl + left mouse button - add a point / remove a point.

Shift + to keep the left mouse button - vertical moving of existing points (drawing).

Instead of a curve it is possible to set single MIDI sending (look the description of MIDI commands for the additional information) and tracker command sending. Only AntiWave sampler can accept tracker commands.

 

Working with Synthesis Scheme and processing of sound signals.

Components, being placed to the scheme owns inputs and outputs. To the inputs directs control sequences or wave flows.

Depending on a type, the component takes the data coming on an input, transform them and transfers to an output. According to an output the data are transferred on a chain to the following component, and so on up to final which directs the data directly to the computer sound card or output wave file.

Each song track represented on the scheme with a component, decoding entered control commands to MIDI sending, understood by other components.

Component - link to the track

At Tracklinker component you can set, on witch plugin instance data will be sent, to witch MIDI channel of plugin build MIDI sending.

Where are two signal types transferred by scheme:

Control signal: pins for connection looks like a rhombus

Such signal controls parameters (knobs) of a component.

Wave signal: pins for connection like a circle

This is a sound wave as result of the component work. You can connect set of cables to one pin.

Each cable also acts as the elementary component which can change volume or a stereo separation of a signal taking place on it.

The Pins, both wave, and control are subdivided into inputs and outputs.

The Outputs visually have acting lug , signaling, that it is possible to pull out a cable.

Press Ctrl + the left mouse button - to start pull out, then drop end to the input pin. If the cable successfully connects 2 pins, it is not painted in the red color.

The component - adapter located at the scheme can represent an array of component copies with different presets.

For working with the concrete copy use the switch between instances as shown on the picture:

Tracker has built-in output scheme. You can setup this scheme for all songs. As a rule here is placed driver component for sound card output. This 'O' scheme can`t be saved to the song file.

Rendering selection to a sample

Select area you want to render, at the popup menu select Render sample for pasting to AntiWave.

Open AntiWave editor window. Press right mouse button on the instrument list and select in the menu 'Create from rendered'. This menu is also available at the wave list of selected instrument.

Composing music in the midi format

Connect all control cables from tracks to out midi pin.

The midi control messages which transferred to MIDI out of outgen driver can be saved to the output mid file

Tracklinker component has ability to redirect midi data to the selected midi channel. Press setup button and select midi channel.

You can use effect field of the track to send additional midi messages. Basic messages is programmed at effect processor window and can be expanded with special scripts.

Go to the effect processor window and press 'Load/Save palette' button then select 'open another palette'.

Choose midi1.ctp file.

For example, sequence of bytes: Bn,10,_12 (n - midi channel, _12 special address decoding) decoded to 0xB{current midi channel},0x10,0x{2-nd and 3-rd digits of address as 00-99 number and scaled to 0-127}

_b0 _b1 _b2 - insert chars of address (ex: a01 _b0 = 'a' _b1='0' _b2='1')
_99 - last 2 chars as number from 00-99 (ex: a01 - 01, a85 - 85)
_12 - last 2 chars as number 00-99 scaled to 0-127 (ex: a01 - 01*127/99, a85 - 85*127/99)
_80 - last 2 chars as number 00-FF scaled to 0-127
_FF - last 2 chars as hexadecimal number 00-FF equal to 0-256
_0X - if last 2 chars 00-0f then 64-128,if f0-00 then 0-64
_X0 - if last 2 chars E0-Ef then 64-96,if FE-0E then 32-64
_a0 - high char as 0-9,a-z decoded to number 0-36
_0a - low char as 0-9,a-z decoded to number 0-36

To create MID file select Menu | File | Export | Render to MID file

 

Working with Freezer

Freezer component is intended to free processor from hard work with cpu hungry VSTi-s. Place freezer as shown at the picture:

After placing freezer - additional menu appears at the track header:

Select 'Refresh track freezing' then 'Play with freezing' items. Pattern track will be rendered to wav file and stored to the folder by composition name. If you want to totally exclude chain from work press button. This is useful to freeze VST effects(or chain of effects).


Working with AntiWave

One instrument consist of one or several waves, control curves and set of configuration switches.

To Zoom a chart area, hold the left mouse button and drag mouse toward down/right.
To RESTORE (or UNDO) the zoom, drag a rectangle in the opposite direction (up/left).
To Select wave area: press Shift then begin selection with mouse.
Use mouse at any axis: Hold the Left mouse button - to scroll, hold the Right button - to change axis scale

To add instrument/sample to the work instrument list:

Click 'Show Loader' button then click '++' button and browse for instruments(wav,pat,aiff,...).
All selected instruments/samples will be added to the loader list. You can save this list pressing loader 'menu' button and select 'Save list as...'. At the left side located list of groups for additional sorting of instruments. Press right mouse button at this list to manage groups (Add,Delete,Rename). Instruments can be copied from one group to another. Select instruments you want to copy then in the popup menu choose Copy(Cut) then paste them to another group.
To hear instrument in the list click on the requested instrument row then press one of the a-z keys.
To add choosed instrument press Ctrl+Enter or use dbl click. Press SPACE to find instrument by name (ESC - cancel). You can add instruments to the work list from standard windows explorer window simply use drag&drop operation.

AntiWave has ability to load sf2 or dls banks. To do this click Lib button then select Bank...|Load disk bank... In this case only path to this bank will be stored to host project file (wave data not stored) and not allowed to apply any changes to loaded bank.

To turn on Instruments on the disk mode do the following :

All instruments, placed to the work list will be saved to the disk as separated wave files and will be loaded only on demand.

Samples will be stored in the next format:

Each AntiWave instance can share their loaded instruments to the other copies of AntiWave.


Click 'Lib' button. Turn on check box 'Share instruments to other instances'. After this - library will be visible in the other copies. To use shared library just click 'use shared library' and select them from the dropdown list.

 

 

Mapper

Mapper allows you to redirect control signal from track to any VSTi component placed on the scheme.
With help of mapper you can organize total VSTi freezing/rendering, including note ranges and volume ranges.

Insert Mapper as shown:

The Mapper editor window divided into 2 parts. Left part - palette of instruments. Right - various settings, applied to the current selected instrument.

Right click on the any cell and select 'Create' at the popup menu.
Click syn1 and select any adapter with loaded VSTi component. Select Bank and preset(Instr) index.
On the mapper tab click 'Insert variable' button and select first example.
Type in name of mapper preset (ex: Prs1) and click 'Add'.

Now type notes in the 'bass' track. These notes played with tonal shift +12 (one octave).


This preset can be used later in the another instrument.

Click AntiWave and select AntiWave sampler component thru which goes wave signal from source VSTi synth.

On the render tab (mapper editor window) click 'Insert example script' button then press yes.
Type name of preset for render and click 'Add'.
Go to the AntiWave editor window and select output disk library (For example use iLib in the AntiWave folder).

The preset determine, how to render instrument.

Press 'Render' button then use rendered instrument in the pattern.
C-4 a00 127 xr0 (xr0 command to turn off playing by rendered waves and play with original instrument)
D-4 a00 127 - plays original VSTi

C-4 a00 127 xr1 (xr1 command to turn on playing with rendered waves)
D-4 a00 127 - plays AntiWave with rendered waves (full instrument freezing)
E-4 a00 127 d0f - plays AntiWave - tracker effects now can be applyed.

 

Working with Multichan

The Multichan component intended to join coming wave flows from different cables to the one cable with multichannel VST flow.

Also Multichan can separate coming multichannel VST flow from one cable to the several cables.

See demo_x00_command.svar example. Tracker`s x00,x01,x02... effect command can redirect played instrument to various paths of sound scheme.

For example:

C-0 a01 90 x00 - directs sound in the cable 0 (adaptor2 - added Reverb effect to the final output)

C-0 a01 90 x01 - directs sound in the cable 1 (adaptor3 - added Chorus effect)

C-0 a01 90 x02 - directs sound in the cable 2 (adaptor3 - added Reverb+Flanger effect)

 

Working with Arranger

Here you can order sequence of song patterns. Simply place here parts of song.

You can place them as in the classic tracker (one by one) or in the parallel, but you must understand what notes, what transferred to same component can break itself.

Parallel arrangement of parts

To select at once several parts: hold the left mouse button and drag mouse toward down/right.

Do the same in the opposite direction to remove selection.

The right mouse button move canvas (single pressing - popup menu)

Use mouse at any axis : Left mouse button - scroll. Right - change axis scale (this is simple and powerful method of navigating)

 

Working with static flows

Click component at the composition scheme. Drag parameter (or several) from a tree of parameters in a window of flows. Thus, you organize the list of parameters for control.

Save the list under the certain name. Earlier saved lists will be accessible to all same type a component.

Create a curve (with help of the popup menu).

Add points, preliminary having turn on edit mode by double clicking left mouse button on a curve rectangle or from the popup menu.

Ctrl + left mouse button - add point / remove point.
